Banksy Creates The Simpsons Intro

The British graffiti artist, street artist and now director Banksy is known for quite a lot of projects. He/she (the identity is still unknown) started doing very creative and provocative graffiti in London. Banksy quickly got a big group of fans that grew from the underground to everything from people working in advertising to musicians. The works of Banksy developed and outdoor installations began to pop up at various locations. Among these were painted elephants and smashed cars. One of the biggest and most famous projects was the Paris Hilton cd episode. The album “Paris” was released in 2006 and on the release date Banksy had together with Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley member) sent 500 copies to different music shops all across Britain. The cover showed a naked Paris and the tracklist had been altered to:  ”Why Am I Famous?", "What Have I Done?", and "What Am I For?".

Banksy’s latest project is the famous The Simpsons intro – this project is not underground because of collaboration with the Fox network. However the critical approach that Banksy is famous for is intact and working well. He focuses on ”sweat shop”-like mass production of Simpsons merchandise from China. Both Western tendencies (outsourcing) and Eastern traditions (dolphin killings) are being criticized. Al Jean, the executive producer of the show, said that it definitely wasn’t the last time they would let an artist create the intro. Al Jean was so excited about the Banksy intro that he said: “I think that The Simpsons will do more outsourcing in the future”.
