Little Bed Intruder
We are continuing our ”best of 2010” in the start of 2011 with this nice little recap of the biggest viral videos of 2010. The setting is a typical school play with the stressed but enthusiastic teacher trying to get the children to deliver a Broadway performance.
Starring: Old Spice Man, Lady GaGa and Antione Dodson. Enjoy the rather soft start to 2011, and tune in to your Weekly Buzz to stay updated on viral projects.
The Year 2010 at Google and YouTube
It’s the time of the year where everything that happened in the past 365 days is to be summed up. In the near future you will see top 10 lists and montages of the big moments of 2010 – both good and bad. Two of the biggest online sites, Google and YouTube, have separately created their cavalcades of 2010 moments.
We’ll start with Google. Google, the largest online search engine, is probably the company with the most information about what we consumers seek information about and what we are interested in. Based on this valuable knowledge, here are the biggest moments on Google in 2010.
Moving on to YouTube, the biggest online video site (without any real competition for the number one spot), has created a list of the 10 most popular videos. And yes, our friends Antoine Dodson and Old Spice Man are on the list.
Will It Blend On a Horse Like a Monster?
One of the best viral campaigns of 2010 is Old Spice “I’m On a Horse”. Your Weekly Buzz have previously commented on this campaign and it will be hard to argue that the Old Spice brand didn’t get a much needed boost and revival. This is a campaign that companies will refer to when describing their planned new viral campaign to their advertising agency – maybe this sentence will sound familiar: “just like that one”. The number of viral campaigns has grown over the years – and so has the quality of these. A cautious guesstimate for the future is that great viral campaigns will be on the top for a shorter amount of time.
Old Spice though is an exception – for it was recently helped by another big viral player. The blender company Blendtec has the very popular “Will It Blend?” show on YouTube. One episode of “Will It Blend?” has an average 1-2 million views! This week’s episode features an Old Spice bottle, and more to that a Isaiah Mustafa (also known as Old Spice Man) lookalike. When two big virale campaigns/show comes together it is bound to create a lot of buzz. In just one day it has generated more than 85.000 views.
Finally Grover from Sesame Street has done a spoof version on Old Spice: ”Smell Like a Monster” – very entertaining.
Old Spice will be a campaign that will be referred to – just a few more years!
Matterhorn Freshershist
In the wake of the now infamous Old Spice “Smell Like A Man” film comes “The Fresh Collection”. Luckily they haven’t neglected the humor and the greatly exaggerated romantic clichés, which makes this ad a worthy successor. Just like “Smell Like A Man” this new ad has an extra film containing just as much silliness as the first one.
Once again your Weekly Buzz will recommend a visit to the campaign site that, besides being very funny as well, is nicely done. In closure we are looking much forward to the next Old Spice advert and despite having to maintain the level of freshness (fresh thinking – and a fresh smell), we hope it will be just as entertaining.
I’m on a Horse
Some people might cringe when they remember the brand “Old Spice”, but all that is perhaps about to change. The American icon brand is making a comeback with a new hilarious campaign. With an amusing campaign site and two funny films, Old Spice is on a mission to make men smell like men. The first two films are targeted at the women gives the message, that anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice. The fantastic tag line for the campaign: “We're not saying this body wash will make your man smell into a romantic millionaire jet fighter pilot, but we are insinuating it”. Check out the two films here, and make your way to the campaign site here.
