Twitter Turns 5
Twitter has turned 5 and as a celebration we will go through some of the statistics behind the popular “gossip site”. Let’s begin with one of the impressive ones: on average more than 1 billion tweets a week! Some of these tweets are mainly everyday life updates while others are spreading the news. A great example of this is June 25 when Michael Jackson died which resulted in 456 tweets per second. Twitter can be used for spreading the news but mostly it’s just a great time consuming activity. However some do use Twitter to power a Mercedes-Benz. Looking at a few growth rates reveals an increase in the daily number for tweets is on the rise (March 2010 – February 2011 =280%) and an increase in the number of new accounts (an average of 460,000 per day in February 2011). Whether all of these accounts are active users or are used as spam generators is not something Twitter want’s to comment on, but the number is remarkable.
To celebrate the anniversary the folks at Twitter has put together a video of a couple of users and what/how the user their Twitter account. We will visit many – everyone from Snoop Dogg to astronauts.
Adidas in the Mos Eisley Cantina
Your Weekly Buzz has expressed our enthusiasm about Adidas adverts – and especially the way in which the celebrities are incorporated in the story. We made positive comments about the Adidas advert “The Street Where Originality Lives”, and we also favor the Star Wars Collection advert featuring Darth Wader. This new advert features both the incorporation of celebrities and Star Wars. Adidas took the famous Mos Eisley Cantina scene and added some of their stars. This “new” scene includes: David Beckham, Snoop Dogg, Noel Gallagher, Franz ”der Kaiser” Beckenbauer and the French electro-duo Daft Punk. Furthermore it includes the Star Wars characters: Han Solo, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO and R2D2.
There has been a lot of debating and comments on YouTube and the advert has already reached more than 3 million views in just 10 days. YouTubers have debated whether or when the original scenes are used – or if they are used at all. The advert contains a lot of fine details. Just to mention a few, it is nice to notice that Daft Punk enters the cantina with C-3PO and R2D2 and both C-3PO and R2D2 are asked to leave and Daft Punk continues. Daft Punk is known for posing as robot-humans and therefore it is a nice moment when they are granted admission, when other robots aren’t. Another detail is Snoop Dogg playing Luke Skywalker, and pulling his blue light saber. This detail has been debated due to the fact that Snoop Dogg holds the saber to the left, and when some people connect him with “Crips” – an American gang known for wearing a blue bandana in their left back pocket. Some have speculated if there are some hidden intentions.
If you feel like watching the original scene we have linked to it here.
The Street Where Originality Lives
Your Weekly Buzz loves Adidas adverts. Everything from the soundtracks used to the played down way of implementing celebrities. If you share a passion for Adidas ads you might remember House Party or Star Wars Collection. All these films feature different celebrities who very elegantly appear in various situations.
This new advert is no different. Once again Adidas is able to use celebrities in fragments, and once again the result is more than great – you would love to attend the big block party, wouldn’t you? Among the celebrities you will spot; Snoop Dogg, David Beckham, Ciara, Noel Gallagher and Whitney Port – just to name a few. Our excitement for the advert doesn’t stop here – did we mention it also contains a great soundtrack by Pilooski?
Well done Adidas!
