Will It Blend On a Horse Like a Monster?
One of the best viral campaigns of 2010 is Old Spice “I’m On a Horse”. Your Weekly Buzz have previously commented on this campaign and it will be hard to argue that the Old Spice brand didn’t get a much needed boost and revival. This is a campaign that companies will refer to when describing their planned new viral campaign to their advertising agency – maybe this sentence will sound familiar: “just like that one”. The number of viral campaigns has grown over the years – and so has the quality of these. A cautious guesstimate for the future is that great viral campaigns will be on the top for a shorter amount of time.
Old Spice though is an exception – for it was recently helped by another big viral player. The blender company Blendtec has the very popular “Will It Blend?” show on YouTube. One episode of “Will It Blend?” has an average 1-2 million views! This week’s episode features an Old Spice bottle, and more to that a Isaiah Mustafa (also known as Old Spice Man) lookalike. When two big virale campaigns/show comes together it is bound to create a lot of buzz. In just one day it has generated more than 85.000 views.
Finally Grover from Sesame Street has done a spoof version on Old Spice: ”Smell Like a Monster” – very entertaining.
Old Spice will be a campaign that will be referred to – just a few more years!
Will It Blend? – iPhone 4
Your Weekly Buzz has already posted comments about the YouTube series “Will It Blend?” that serves as therapy for people with a destructive urge meanwhile advertising for Blendtec blenders. In our first post about “Will It Blend?” it was the – then new – iPad that got fragmented. This week’s episode features the new and much hypes iPhone 4. Despite the new iPhone 4 Steve Jobs (lookalike) makes an appearance and gives a hint to what Apples new invention/product is going to be.
The “Will It Blend?” channel is very popular on YouTube with over 300.000 subscribers and 100 uploaded videos. The theme of this YouTube-sensation has proven simple enough to produce episode after episode. The challenge is to find a thing or a product that people will find funny and entertaining – because the idea of destroying something in a blender never gets old.
In this episode Blendtec announces a contest where you can nominate your old phone. If your phone is selected as the winner you will win the new iPhone 4 and a paid contract for two years – and your phone will be blended on YouTube! The question you have to ask yourself is if you (in order to be able to compete with the fierce competition) submit your old brick of a phone? Or will you donate it to a technology museum so that one day your great-great- grandchildren will be able to enjoy it?
Will It Blend? – iPad Edition!
The iPad fever is still high all over the world even despite the disappointing sales figures in America, where “only” 300.000 units were sold on the first day – it was projected to sell 600.000. Since the introduction of the iPad, it has been exposed to a lot. Your Weekly Buzz showed you what Adolf Hitler thought of the iPad, and it has also been criticized in a MadTV sketch.
This time the iPad is being demolished in the YouTube sensation “Will It Blend?”. Will It Blend? Is a viral series of programs that works as a campaign for Blendtec blenders. The program features a lot of different items being blended: an iPhone, Chuck Norris, oysters, a golf club, 12 glowsticks, a baseball, Facebook and a Ford Fiesta.
Is you are an Apple maniac, we warn you against strong images!
